Character Background and Description
Ronan is a half selkie child. She lives with her marine biologist father in a cottage by the shore. Because her father often travels off the island for lectures, she was raised a little communally. When she was younger, different families would take turns inviting her to stay at their house for the periods her dad was away. Now that she’s a little older, she stays at home, but people will bring her dinner over, or invite her around for meals. She loves to play outdoors and swim, and has lots of friends among the children of the island. She's easy to get along with and mature for her age, so she gets along with many of the older residents as well. Her favorite past time is whale-watching with her dad, and she likes to dance with the old people during their folk music nights.

She has light brown skin with freckles and patches of vitiligo, curly dark hair and big brown eyes. She has a gap between her front teeth, but she refuses to get braces because the thought of metal in her mouth makes her very uncomfortable.

Ronan is outgoing and energetic but with periods of morose and homesickness. She’ll often go to the shore and stand in the waves, looking out to the horizon. Sometimes she sees seals looking back at her. She has memories of her mother coming to play with her as a child, but hasn’t seen her in a few years. She feels disjointed in her life on land, she’s very happy but feels like something is missing.

Since her father won’t talk much about her mother, Ronan’s fae past is shrouded in some mystery. Some of the older folk on the island will tell her stories of the love between her parents, and that the day she returned to the sea was devastating to her father, and hard on the whole island. She thinks she had a seal skin, but believes her mother took it from her when she left the island. She longs to find out what happened, and that attributes to her periods of depression.

Her fae blood gives her incredibly increased physical abilities. Ronan has enhanced senses and lung capacity, and increased endurance and agility. She is an incredibly skilled swimmer and is coldproof. She hasn’t experimented past these abilities but subconsciously feels some unwoken potential within her. Her father doesn’t restrict what she does, but his fear of losing her like her mother stifles his marine biologist curiosity, and he has strong morals against testing his daughter’s powers.
